FLAXMTLLING DISPUTE

Arbitration Court is hearing .the dispute in connection with the flaxmilling industry, the same being in the nature of an appeal by the jolliers against the rate of pay fixed per ton for cutting flax by the sidelCaf method. Mi. Hammond, for the millers, isaitl that. under the award governing the parties it- was provided that if new machinery were introduced or any new methods' adopted the rate Of pay for such work in connection thereto would be replaced by mutual agreement, and failing that the question would be referred to the inspector of awards... Tire demand made on millers was £1 per ton of flax 'cut by the sideleaf method. The parties had failed to. reach an agreement, and the dispute f had been referred to the inspector, who had fixed the rate at 16s 7-Jd per ton. Against that sum,the case was brought to the Court. The millers alleged that the rate was exorbitant. The rate of cutting under the old system was seven shillings. The hearing is proceeding.
