(From Our Own Correspondent.) GYHKHANA COMMITTEE. A ' general meeting of the various co mmittees and official si in connection with the gymkhana and tug-of-war to be held on Wednesday next in the Manaia Domain was held on Saturday night, when there was a very large attendance. Mr. W. Duggan presided. The secretary reported that Mr. Leo. Quin, amateur golf champion of New Zealand had kindly consented to give an exhibition of driving at 2 p.m. on the Manaia Domain. No doubt many golfing enthusiasts and the public will avail themselves of witnessing this exhibition. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Quin for his kindness in complying with the wish of the gymkhana committee. Mr. P. Wright, solicitor, Manaia, will receive nominations for the golf events for ladies and gents on the programme on the ground. A reply was received from Captain W. Melville, Hawera, stating that be will act as judge for the horse jumping events. Mr. Sagar will be judge for the car and motor bike events. The baby show will be a big attraction. . Three classes —from one month to six, from six* to. twelve months, anil twelve months to , eighteen months. Nurse Merria and the matron of the Manaia private hospital have kindly consented to act as judges. The following bike events were approved: One mile and two miles, nomination 2s 6d. Running events: Maiden, 120 yards, 100 yards open, and half-mile open, nomination 2s 6d; youths’ events, 17 years and under, 100 yards and quarter-mile, nomination Is; primary school boys’ events, 100 and -220 yards, nomination Is; sack race open, nomination 2s. Handicappers and starters for the field events: Messrs. A. J. Hansen, C. Burke and J. O’Dea. Officials for the children’s events: Messrs. F. Willcooks, J. Christie, Edwin Burke, E. Long and A. G. Bennett. Messrs. J. S. McKay, A. H. Christie kindly consented to act as judges in the bike and running events Mr. J. Russell reported that all arrangements in connection with the championship tug-of-war to be held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening, September 24, were complete. The secretary stated that he had received eleven nominations so. far for the tug-of-war: Kapuni railway employees two teams, A and B, Riverlea, Taungatara, Kaupokonui, Riverdale, Waimate West County Council, three Maori teams, viz., Joe Api, Ware Rei and Wai Opai teams, Oeo. The time for nominations for the tug-of-war was extended until Wednesday night, September 24. closing with the secretary at 7 p.m. before the various teams at the Town Hall. No doubt great excitement will prevail on each evening of the pulls. It is estimated that another five teams aril] compete during the interval between the pulls. A very nice concert programme will be submitted. The pulls are the best two out of three threeminute pulls.

The kapa Maori hangi will be a great attraction oji the ground. The Maori committee, under the direction of Ware Rei, have everything ready for the important function. A whole bullock will be roasted in the good old Maori custom, and will be well worth going a long distance to see. The ladies have every detail in connection with the refreshment tent well in hand, and lunch will be provided on the ground, commencing at noon ; also afternoon tea and fruit .salad. The gymkhana starts at 11.30 a.m., as the programme for the day is large. The horse, car and bike and running events will be well worth seeing. Given a good day a record attendance is assured.
