PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. TREND OF AFFAIRS. 8Y OABLK--PREBB ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGB'I NEW YORK, Sept. 20. With the Presidential election approximately six weeks off the preliminary campaign is rapidly pacing toward the climax, and many important indications are already available concerning the trend of affairs. Senator Lafollette’is candidacy, which was very much overshadowed during and immediately after the Republican and Democratic conventions by important occurrences therein, is ndw assuming greater importance and commanding greatest interest. Unofficial straw votes have been conducted in various parts of the country by various organisations, and nearly all show President C'oolidge leading, Senator Lafollette a very strong second, and Mr. Davis a very poor third. It is remarkable to note the diverse elements composing the votes. Senator Lafollette’s supporters are successfully overlooking their own differences and uniting to further Senator Lafollette’s fortunes, which, however, move forward under a handicap of insufficient funds and inexperienced party organisation.
