OPIUM TRAFFIC
A FURTHER. DISCOVERY

CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 18. As the result of a search by Mr. Reynolds, a Custom® searcher at 'Lytelton, at further thirty-seven tins of opium, valued at £4BO were found in the cabin on the. liner Sussex of the Chinese carpenter, who is now in custody in Wellington on a charge of smuggling. The total value of the opium seized now reaches £1650. Noticing that the two drawers 'under the bunk would not pull right out, but •stuck a few inches from the end, Reynolds took the fitting to pieces. Neatly .fitted into the rear of each drawer w'ere tine of opium resembling in shape pocket torches.
The find will be forwarded to Wellington to-morrow.
