FARMERS’ CO-OP. ORGANISATION SOCIETY’S REPORT.
On Saturday, the 13th, we held a special sale of dairy , heifers at our Hawera yards. About 100 heifers were yarded, and nearly every line was cleared at the hammer. Best prices for Jersey quality heifers (good condition) £l2 10s to £ls, others to £lO, good Holstein cross heifers £7 5s to £7 15s, backward heifers and low conditioned do. £3 5s to £6.
On Monday, the loth, we conducted our usual fortnightly sale at TJrenui. We are able to report a good yarding of all classes of stock. Competition was keen throughout, and practically the whole yarding was cleared at the hammer, especially marked on the fat cattle, there being a strong enquiry and the beef market hardening in consequence. One line of very heavy bullocks from Okoke, which were offered by us in conjunction with Newton King, Ltd., fell to the bid of a Tikorangi buyer at £l3 14s, and one extra heavy cow making £l2. In the dairy pens there was also good competition, and the' yarding was cleared at the hammer at rates slightly in advance of late sales. Quotations: M.s. hoggets 29s Bd, good store pigs 33s to 48s, heavy beef bullocks £l3 14s, lighter,do. £lO 10s, fat cow (extra prime) £l2, prime do. £6 15s to £8 10s, lighter do. £5 10s, good store cows £2 7s, others £1 10s, empty heifers £3 6s, yearling heifers £1 *ss to £2 ss, •springing heifers close to profit £6 5s to £B,. smn.l l and backward sorts £4 10s to £5 10s. •

At our sale of dairy stock on the same day we report a good demand for forward cows and heifers with backward, sorts neglected. Quotations: — Good conditioned heifers in milk and at- drop, £6 15s to £8 15s; poorer sorts, £3 to £5; guaranteed sound dairy cows from £5 10s to. £8; pedigree Friesian cow, 284 guineas. Next sale of dairy stock Saturday, September 20. At Inglewood yesterday we had a very fair yarding of store cattle and heavy one of dairy cattle, principally heifers. All classes sold well, yearling heifers, 2-year empty heifers and young store cows maintaining the steady improvement that has been noticeable at late sales. Jn the dairy pens a big number of the heifers were under-sized and poor in condition, and this hampered prices to a very great extent. Inquiry was firm nevertheless. Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house, under date of the 11th instant:
Lamb. —New Zealand, prime crossbred, Canterbury, heavy life], light 12fd; North Island, heavy ll£d, light f2d. Demand for New Zealand lamb is less. Any change in prices is in favour of buyers. Mutton.—New Zealand prime crossbred, Canterbury, heavy 7|d, light Bfd; North Island, heavy 7‘d, light B£d. Demand for New-Zealand mutton has been checked by increased prices askecl. Though prices are nominally unchanged, it is very difficult to sell at : fates quoted. Australian Frozen Lamb.—Quotation for good average quality crossbred lamb (light) is llld. There is a good demand for Australian lamb, though at present very few lambs have arrived.
