The sketch produced above shows a fast and correct land measurer. Catch hold of the handle with two hands, and turn over and over, keeping one point or leg on the ground each time. The measuring can be done as fast as a man can walk. The contrivance is particularly useful for marking out lands for ploughing.
The need often orises to lift water and other things from one point to another. A barrel sling, contrived in the maimer illustrated, offers a simple means of doing so.
