PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING,

The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held in; the Plunket rooms on Friday. There were present: Mesdames Goodson (chair), Goodwin, Jobson, Bone, Campbell, Hooker, Haggett, Graves, Carter, Godfrey, Daveyj Goring, . Searle, Burdekin, and Misses Corrigan and King. > (secretary). Apologies were received from Mesdames Tait and Hunter.-

The nurse’s report was read and adopted. New cases for the month, mothers and babies, 56; mothers and babies to office, 802; nurse’s visits to homes, 332. The report of the children’s fancy dress ball ivas then received. It was quite a suceess, and all who attended thoroughly enjoyed it. £l7 7s 6d was taken, and a donation of £1 from Taylor’s Premier Orchestra; expenses £9 2s 6d; nett profit £9 os. The resignation of Mrs. Fovster was received with much regret. Mrs. Foyster has worked so faithfully for many years in helping to bring the Hawera Plunket Society to its present efficient standard. The committee fully appreciate the willing Avay in which Mrs. Foyster undertook any responsibility.

A letter *.vas received from Mr. Jobson re a complete overhaul of the Plunket car. It was decided to leave it in Mr. Jabson’s hands.

The report of the conference by the delegates was then taken. The committee were very disappointed the delegates had been asked to withdraw the Hawera remit. Much' interesting work had been put through. The delegates had also seen the working of the lTutt branch. A discussion then arose re the cost of running our own branch. Where the nurse can travel by train or mail coach the'branch is able to get a refund of travelling expenses, but in our scattered district this is impossible. It was decided that in the future all calls outside the borcugh must pay the car expenses. It is becoming too great a strain.on the committee to meet the continued increase in expense.

The following subscriptions were received during the month: Mrs. Ogle £l, Mesdames Brunette, Barker, Townsend, Dillon. Frevberg, Bright and Mr. Bright os each, a Friend 3s, hire of hoop-la £1 7s (id and 10s, refund of delegate’s expenses £3.

Accounts to the amount of £6+ ISs os were passed for payment.
