VISIT TO AUSTRALIA

Sir Joseph Ward, who returned from Australia to-day, was struck with the advance and expansion of Australian cities, particularly Sydney and Melbourne. Tie spoke of the danger of drawing too many people from the country to the cities, which would be an awkward problem to solve. He spoke of the currency question. He said that if the note issue, the limit of which was fixed, was greatly extended there was a fear'-TliafT there would be an inflation in values. Referring to the high exchange rates which had aggravated the position in Australia and New Zealand, he said this was having a. prejudicial effect in all v '^ oro . conditions prevail. ibis question of exchange must be grappled with on a new basis/’ said Sir Joseph. He declined to discuss politics. *
