OPERATIC SOCIETY.

“OUR MISS GIBBS.” OPENS NEXT WEDNESDAY

The committee made an excellent selection when they decided on the pretty and attractive opera “Our Miss Gibbs,” which has had' in various centres a wonderful series of successes and has always proved a great draw wherever staged. .They have assembled a very good, strong chorus, and the principals selected are all showing themselves well suited to the parts. The chorus is probably the best ever assembled for any performance in Hawera. They have shown great enthusiasm in their jvork, and a Star representative who was present at a combined rehearsal of the whole opera was struck with the excellent prospects of a very fine staging of the pretty >pera. The principals all show a, good knowledge of their work, and are rapidly acquiring a satisfactory appreciation of the many fine scenes with which the opera abounds. As they get more familiarity with the plot they are able to let themselves go and live the characters they pourtray. i; The plot is very cleverly evolved, and gives great opportunities for all the leading performers. The music is very pretty, and at once catches the ear of the listener jind includes many well-known airs and choruses. Under the careful and thorough guidance of the capable and enthusiastic producer, Mr T. E. Foster, the scenes are rapidly taking capital shape, and all the best and most striking effects are being secured. When the full dress rehearsal is held in a few days he is confident all the members will be able to combine to make a great success. The prospects of a really excellent performance are assured. The public will see on Wednesday next, the opening night at the Opera House, a performance that will worthily uphold the good record made by the society. They are advised to secure their seats ’ early on Friday, when the hooking opens at Everybody’s Sweet Shon. There will; he no tax and no earlv -doors.
