ELTHAM SCOUTS.
VISIT OF THE COMMISSIONER

A special parade of the Eltham Scouts and Girl Guides was held in the Town Hall last evening to welcome the newly-appointed District Commissioner, Mr F. W. Horner, of Hawera. The District Scoutmaster, Mr W. Heyes, was also present. Mr Ira J. Bridger, chairman of the local committee, introduced the. Commissioner, and in doing so referred to ihe aims and ideals of the scont law, which made for the development of character. He assured the Commissioner, on behalf of the troops, of unquestioned loyalty and. obedience to any commands which may be given from time to time.
Mr Horner was received with the scout salute, and he then addressed the combined troops, stressing the great indue of the movement from the standpoint of building character, without which no man or woman, boy or girl, could be really successful or "useful in life. The movement also made for the hetter health of its members and a greater capacity for the enjoyment of life. Mr Horner expressed himself as very pleased with the appearance and alertness of the troops, and congratulated the officials on the results secured, and he hoped they would maintain their keenness for the work and that the movement in Eltham would still continue to : progress and prosper. Mr Horner then met the members of the local committee, and discussed various aspects of the work in South Taranaki.
