AN APPEAL MADE. SYDNEY, Sept, 10. Ihe stipendiary stewards to-day dealt with, the case of Royal Despatch, which was previously adjourned ho enable Mr Knight (the owner) to be present to show cause why the horse should not he dealt with.
No evidence was called, hut Mr Knight reiterated what he said in New Zealand, viz., that nothing had occurred to shake liis confidence in the trainer (F. Jones). Tlie stewards decided to disqualify Royal Despatch for 12 months. In arriving at this decision, th© stewards were influenced hv the contention that the owner must he taken to he responsible for the actions of his employees. Although, they considered that Mr Knight was in no way implicated in the case, they took the view that he should he penalised to the< extent of losing the services of his horse. Mr Knight has given notice of appeal to the A.J.C. Committee, and the appeal will probably he dealt with tomorrow.
GIGGLE GOES AMISS. n . . SYDNEY, Sept. 9. Giggle is reported amiss, and is in the hands of the vet. He has been scratched for his next Saturday’s Tattersall’s engagement. ' • SERIES OF SENSATIONS. EPIDEMIC OF COUGHING. MANY HORSES AFFECTED. LONDON, Sept. 10. There has been" a series of sensations preceding the St, Leger, which is likeJv to go down in history as “the coffin St. Leger.” An epidemic of coughing is sweeping the principal stables, causing the sera tellings of 'Straightlace, the Oaks winner. Hurstwood and- Bright Knight are also aiflicted.
Sansovino, the Derby winner, was today affected, as well as Polyphonies-and Sa.lmontrout and Lord Aster’s St. Germans. Five out of ten horses, from f lie Mnnton stables are affected. Dethestro, the trainer of Polyphonies, says there has been nothing like the epidemic in his thirty years’ experience. TWO-YEAR-OLD PAR ADE. / ' (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 10.
