At the coorner’s inquest on the victims of the steamer Karcela accident a verdict of accidental death was merely recorded in : view of- the fact that a Marine Court enquirv is nending. ‘ The evidence was very conflicting. According to the captain, when he found the steering gear jammed he gave the order “full speed astern.” fhe engineer gave evidence that the order was immediately acted on, but came too late The crash occurred three seconds later.
