NEW ARRIVALS.

WELCOMED TO TARANAKI. AVnoiig the emigrants who have recently arrived in New Zealand are a number who have taken up their residence at. the Miangawherc-Skeet road, and these immediately found themselves amongst, warm-hearted people, who, by organised effort, have done their best to make the newcomers feel that, they were surrounded by friends. At. the residence of Mr John Mowat last week about fifteen new arrivals were entertained at a specially ' arranged gathering of local residents, representatives of various interests in the district being present to extend a welcome. The speakers were Mr Blackstock (manager for the Joll Company), Mr A. Birehall (atheletic sports), Mr Gerald-Taylor (footballers) and Messrs Josh find Jack McCarthy '(Amusements)-. Among those who took part in the programme of songs and other items were: Misses Essie Bradford, Kitty Clarke (New Plymouth), McGuire and Clareburt. Some remarkable piano playing was, doiie by Miss Chrissie .Sheridiff, o.ne of the new arrivals. This young lady, though blind, is quite a clever pianist., and gave great pleasure to all, present. The social was arranged by Mesdames Westfield, Blaekstock and. Birchall, and Misses Mowat (2). The amusements included (lancing, and an excellent supper was served. The whole evening was most enjoyable.
