BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT
Received Sept. 8, 8.5 a.m
NEW YORK, Sept. 6. An unusual and most interesting situation affecting the political eaufpaign of the rival parties has arisen as the result of the passing of the American woollen common dividend on Thursday which caused a break in the whole stock market, woollen itself dropping eighteen points. The Democrats are- maintaining, that the action of the American Woollen. Company proved conclusively that the Republican cry of prosperity was a myth affording evidence, if needed, of the complete ' breakdown of the FordneyMaccumber Tariff Bill.
Mr. Thomas Spellacy (Democratic’, the Eastern campaign manager, says: “We are constantly told by the Republican press and Republican orators that the Republican Party gave the woollen industry the highest protection ever given. 1 Notwithstanding this protection the textile industry has lowered wages, closed some factories, and in many instances they running part tim©. The workers certainly have not. benefited by the tariff which they were told was passed for their protection.—R'euter. “
