WAR GRAVES.
WORK AT GALLIPOLI
NEARING COMPLETION. 8Y CABLE — VB.RSB ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHTReceived Sept, 8, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, Sent. 7. Colonel Hughes, head of the Australian War Graves Committee, Gallipoli, states that the cemeteries are almost complete, except for 2000 headstones and slabs, which are being delayed in arrival by a strike in the quarries. The graves are enclosed by massive stone walls surrounded by a belt of trees. A record house is being built in the: form of an obelisk. The New Zealand memorial at Chanak is also completed. The conditions in Turkey having improved, there is now nothing to. prevent Australians and New Zealanders making pilgrimages to the graves, The best period for visiting is between April and the end of September. There are no. hotels in the cemetery area, but the Australian staff will undertake to make visitors as comfortable as possible.
Unveiling ceremonies will probably be arranged in the near future. —Sydney Sun Cable.
