On Tuesday evening at Wanganui a ' ‘surprise party” of over thirty friends .’isited the home of Sergt. and Mrs Reid, who are about to leave Wanganui on transfer to Stratford. During the evening a presentation was made by Mr N. Ash, cn behalf of those present —a handsome Reid, and a, pipe to the genial sergeant, who. briefly acknowledged the gifts. Sergeant Reid expressed sincere regret at leaving Wanganui and all the good friends they had made. Ex-Cop-stable Hedgeman also made a very happy speech, and spoke highly of both Sergeant and Mrs Reid, saying that the members of the police force had always found the sergeant “one of the best.” “For They are Jolly Good Fellows” was sung, and the rest of the evening was pleasantly occupied with music and dancing. Last evening members of the Wanganui Technical College. Old Boys’ Football Club tendered a valedictory social to Mr E. Reid, a member of their senior team, and also his father. Sergeant J. Reid. Mr R. H. Jones, of Waitara, has written to the Stratford Post denying a. statement that he was the official Labour candidate for Waitomo. He is net, he states, the official Labour candidate for any seat in the Dominion.
