THE PRINCE

MUCH PUBLIC ATTENTION. THREAT OF VIOLENT DEATH, BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT . NEW YORK, Sept. 4. the Prince of Wales spent another night out, which made the third in succession. He returned to Mr J. A. Burden’s home .at- Long Island at daylight, and arose at noon. So that his rest might be unbroken,, troopers at the gates requested motorists entering the grounds to use the back drive. The Prince during the afternoon felt refreshed, and played strenuous polo. Leaving Piping Rock at midnight, the Prince, with Lord and Lady Mountbatten and Lord and Lady MilfordHaven, attended a jolly party at the home of Mr J. L. Cosden. The fun continued till daylight. The Prince declined to attend a ieception to the United States worldfliers at New York on Sunday, having rigidly excluded official functions from his holiday. One of the Prince’s attendants expressed surprise at the crowds follow nig the Priuce of Wales. He declared that the Prince was subjected to much public attention in England and the colonies, but the English crowds never break the cordon.

A letter to the Prince of Wales, saying in part: “If you do not get out of tli-e United States soon you will meet with a violent death,” has been received by the French Consul’s office. The letter is three pages long and .most portions are incoherent. It bears the post-mark of Syosset. A telegram from Syosset says that the Prince of Wales found isolation in a motor-boat trip to Long Island Sound to-night. - The air was chilly and the sea rough, but there were no pursuing crowds. After poloi to-day at Mr J. T. Phipp’s estate he took lunch there with Mr Will Rogers, the comedian, and later, accompanied ;>y his equeiTy, Major E. D. * Metcalfe,- he olayed golf at Mr Cosden’s place. He left there at 5 o’clock on a launch, but his destination was not announced.
