DRUNK DRIVER.
CRASHES INTO CARS.
A LAST WARNING
(BY TELEGRAPH—PBESB ASSOCIATION.) ' GISBORNE, Sept. 4. A motorist named George Robert Douglas appealed before the magistrate to-day charged with being drunk while in charge of a motor-car. Evidence was given to the effect that the accused was driving from town at an excessive speed. Outside the saleyards a number of cars were parked, and he ran into these, badly damaging two and slightly damaging . a third. Counsel urged drunkenness as an excuse.
The magistrate said it was the first of these cases that had come before him, and it would be the last which would not be dealt with by imprisonment. Accused would find it an expensive proposition as it was, and would be fined £6. In future cases it would mean imprisonment.
