FATAL INJURIES.

CAR COLLIDES WITH OAONUI

BRIDGE

As the result of a motor accident, Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Boardman, aged 59, of Rahotu, died at the New Plymouth hospital at 2.20 a.m. yesterday. Mrs. Boardman was a widow and lived with her son-in-law. Mr. T. R. Billing, at Ngariki Road. Rahotu. The sad occurrence will cause regret throughout the district.

A report obtained by the police shows that on Monday Mr. Billing drove to Opunake,- liis wife and daughter of four years .being in the front of tie car - with him, while Mrs. Boardman', a girl of 15, and two boys aged 6'and 8 years, occupied the back seat. The; return journey was commenced at 3.15. p.m. When the.car was about a length 1 on to the Oaonui River bridge the back wheels skidded to the left hand side and the car wobbled. Before Mr. Billing could straighten the car on its course it went towards the right-hand sid© of the bridge, and the front wheelcap and the front mudguard struck the centre post of the bridge. The speed was then about 15 miles per hour. The driver shut off the benzine aftd applied the brakes. The car was stopped after the rear wheels had swerved at right angles across the bridge. No one was thrown out of the car, but Mr. Billing received a bump on the mouth and nose * and Mrs. Boardman was found lying on the bajpk seat Dr. Watt was summoned from Opunake and attended to Mrs. injuries,, then ordering her removal to the hospital.
