The severity of the Bellevue (Manchester) band contest ho doubt-caused the withdrawal of 12 of the 21 entrants for the test piece selection, from Liszt’s work, the E Flat Concerto, Liebestraum, 6th Rhapsodie. It was generally expected the Besses o’ the Barn would win, hut the Australians played wonderfully; and gained the verdict amidst great enthusiasm. The band is pow confident it will win the Crystal Palace championship.
