POLICE INSPECTOR-GENERAL’S REPORT.

Strikes have occurred at several mills in the timber district, owing to the dispute regarding piece work, to which the union objected. hundred men are affected. SYDNEY, Sent. 3. ; The Court granted the application of the English, Scottish and Australian Bank for winding up Patrick Steamships, Ltd., on the ground that the company was unable to pay its debts. Petitioners’ statement showed that the company owed them £105,000, against which they , had a security of £30,000. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. £10,000,000 LOAN. MELBOURNE, Sept. 3. In the House of Representatives the Treasurer announced a new local loan of £10,300,000, to carry 6 per cent at 98, issuing on September 8~ This was the only new money it was proposed to raise in the current financial vear. It would be free of State, but subject to Commonwealth income tax.
