GOLD FIND.

REPORTED FROM ROTORUA. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 2. The reports of the new gold discovery in the Rotorua district were mentioned to-day to the Under-Secretarv of Mines, who stated that samples of rock had been brought to Wellington and forwarded to the analyst for a report, which was not yet available. A special officer, who was sent to the area to look over the new reef, has not yet reported. Two applications for claims have been received, one from a native and one on behalf of a native. The reef is on native land, and is useless for any other purpose, but until this was declared a mining area it was not perissible for prospectors to wander on to or about it at will, and the declaration will depend on the departmental officer’s report.
