AWATUNA.

ADDRESS TO FARMERS. A meeting of farmers wai-s held in the, hall on Saturday.' evening, when Mr L. H. McAlpine, organises. for the Hew Zealand Farmers’ Union/ and Mr R. Dunn, provincial president, were present. Mr M. Bourke presided over a fair attendance.

Mr McAlpine explained at length the objects of the Farmers’ Union. During the address lie stated that the union intended asking Parliament to pass a Bill for the establishing of an agricultural hank, and desired the assistance of the farming community towards the movement. Mr Dunn instanced the value <of boys’ and girls’ clubs inaugurated by the Farmers’ Union. The younger generation had a partial liking for town life, and the clubs referred to would assist to check the drift.

At the request of the organiser, the meeting passed a resolution' affirming the principle of the agricultural bank, and to ask the Government to facilitate the passing of the Bill this session. A copy cf the resolution is to lie sent to Mr Hawken, M.P.' The formation of a branch of the farmers’ Union at Awatuna was discussed and on being approved of by the meeting, the following officers were elected President, Mr E. Davison; vice-president, Mr L. Corbett; secretayy, Mr F. L. Street; advisory committee, Messrs T. Haworth, H. 'Korte, and M. Bourke. ;

A vote of thanks to Messrs McAlpine and Dunn, carried by acclamation. concluded the meeting-.
