THEFT CHARGE.
UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES. (BY TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) , DUNEDIN, Sept. 1. Alexander Robert Kennedy, registrar ot births.and deaths, appeared before Mr. Justice Sim to-day for sentence °*L & charge of theft as a Government official of £72. It was stated in mitigation that the accused was in a state of mental depression and nervous prostration through private worries and illness The evidence of a girl clerk showed that the accused had been behaving strangely, breaking cash-boxes and win-clow-panes in his rages. This was far from his normal state.
• Mr. Justice Sim, in, admitting the a^ cu^e< l to probation for one year, stated that the circumstances were unusual and extraordinary.
