(Received Sept. 2, 9.35 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 1. t lb the semi-final of the national singles championship Johnston defeated Patterson In the first set the games alternated with the service until Johnston, breaking through Patterson’s service in the sixth game, established a 5—2 lead and ran out winner of the set 6 —2. Patterson again losing the service in the second set, Johnston’s mastery was now complete. The Australian was wholly unsteady. Patterson lost his service thrice, the American winning the set love. In the third set Johnston played brilliantly, Patterson offering his least inspiring tennis since he arrived in America. The American won at wRI, love. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
