ROYS INJURED BY CRACKER. BT VttBHP ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Aug. 30.'11.5 a.m. ; SYDNEY, Aug. 30. A peculiar accident happened to three boys playing with crackers .in a street at Surrey Hills. John Chipchase, aged 5, placed a cracker in a hole in ail iron lid of a sewer manhole. When it went off there was a violent explosion, and the lid was blown into the air and hit Chipchase $p the head, fracturing his skull. The other two boys were blown into the air li.y tho force of the explosion. All wore taken to hospital in a serious condition. ATTACKS ON PEDESTRIANS. SYDNEY, Aug. 30. Attacks on pedestrians m the streets at night have now spread to Svdney. Last night a .woman at Hurstville and a man at Ultimo were both hit on the head, the former with a sandbag and the latter with a bottle, and robbed. SPRING VALE MURDER. MELBOURNE, Aug. 30. In connection with the Springvale murder, Dr. Mollison, pathologist, states that the story told by Ivan Mouat cannot he true, because it is inconsistent with the results of the post mortem. Dr. Mollison says that the boy could not have been drowned, as stated, in two to three feet of water. The depth at the most was a foot. Moreover, there were no marks on the head, where Ivan says he struck his brother with a stick. The police interviwed a lad who lives in the neighbourhood and who hampered the -police and the civilian search parties on Sunday by giving false information. He told Mie police searchers that civilians had searched the racecourse, and later told civilians that the police had clone so.
