STEVEDORES’ STRIKE,
MEN FIRED ON BY SOVIET TROOPS. SIX KILLED; TWENTY WOUNDED. <T GABL1 —PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT (Received Aug. 30, 9.50 a.m.) RIGA, Aug. 29. A stevedores’ strike is in progress at Petrograd. Soviet troops guarding the strike-breakers fired upon a body of strikers, killing six and wounding twenty. The strike remains unbroken, despite the huge reserves of men drawn from Petrograd’s unemployed army of 170,000. —Sydney Sun Cables. GENERAL MOBILISATION. LONDON, Aug. 29. According to a Moscow telegram, the Soviet Government has decided on general mobilisation, which is daily expected. Kameneff will probably be Commander-in-Chief. The reason given is tense relations between Poland and Roumania.
