ROWAN.
FAREWELL SOCIAL. A representative gathering of Rowan ;ind Kaponga residents attended the farewell social and dance tendered in the Rowan Hall last night to Mr P. Briggs, who is leaving for New Plymouth in the near future. An enjoyable clance programme was ai’ranged by Mr H. Hardaker as M.C., music being supplied by Mrs Matahaere, Miss A. Briggs, and Mr J. McCandhsh. The popularity of the guest of the evening was demonstrated by the expressions of regret over his departure, which were mingled with the wishes extended for his future welfare. Mr G. B. Hill, in presenting Mr Briggs, on behalf of the gathering, with a travelling rug, said it was fitting that on the eve of his departure his friends should assemble to pay a tribute to the esteem in which* he was held. Mr Briggs had been in the employ of the Kaponga Dairy Company for seven years, and had recently gained his engineer’s certificate. As a director of the company, Mr Hill expressed regret that the company had to part with one who had proved himself so efficient, and referred fittingly to the excellent athletic record maintained by Mr Briggs, who had also been a prominent figure in the social life of the district. In a suitable response Air Briggs expressed his appreciation of the gift and the courtesy extended by those in attendance, adding that he would always remember with pleasure his many kind friends in Rowan and Kaponga and the happy years spent with them. A dainty supper was served by the ladies, and the social terminated at an early hour this morning with the customary musical honours. On Saturday Air Briggs will be the guest of the “boys” of the district at a smoke \ooneert in the Rowan Hall. ~
