At a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union two Rknfurly Shield challenges were received, one from the Bay of Plenty and the other from Taranaki, asking that their matches with Hawke’s Bay be declared shield contests. To this the' union agreed. FIRST JUNIORS. SEMI-FINAL. STRATFORD (3) V. URENUI (0). The previous meeting of these teams ended in a draw, and yesterday at Inglewood, after a very close and keen contest, Stratford just got home by an unconverted try to nil. The play was very_ even throughout, and just on call of time Smith, from a forward rush, got across and scored. Mr F Hooker was referee.

The winners have now to play off with Hawera Juniors, and a goocf contest is certain.

THIRD GRADE FINAL. STRATFORD (14) V. ELTHAM (10). The final for the third grade championship was played at Stratford yesterday. Stratford beating Eltham by 14 points to 10, after a fast and keen game. In the first five minutes Stratford secured a lead of eight points, Robson goaling from a mark and Henry scoring a try, which was converted by H. Hinton. Later in the spell R. Hinton scored a- try, which was not converted. Just on half-time Eltham hacks put in a nice rush and Burrows secured and dived over. The try was not converted. Early in the second spell the Stratford backs combined in a very good passing rush, which resulted in Sullivan crossing at the corner Eltham maintained the attack, and Velviii outpaced the opposition and scored a try. The kick failed.. Near the end of the game, from a line-out the ball was sent to Cooper (Eltham). who had played a fine game, and lie potted a fine goal, making the final score: Stratford 14 Eltham 10
