ELTHAM FIRE BOARD.
SPECIAL MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A special meeting of the Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon for the purpose of considering the finance committee’s report. The full hoard was present. Mr. E. Thomas presided. The board went into committee to consider the purchase of a Ford truck, at present in use by the brigade but owned by Mr. E. Crabtree. After considerable discussion, terminating in an offer to Mr. Crabtree for the purchase, Mr. Crabtree was immediately communicated with, but he refused to accept the offer, and the matter dropped. The following recommendations were then adopted: That the board purchase a new Ford chassis, with selfstarter and electric, light, at a cost of £180; that the board pay to the E - tham volunteer fire brigade the sum of £ls as compensation for the money expended out of the brigade social fund on the body of the fire engine; that the board pay to Messrs. Hurrell Bros, the sum of £lO towards the \vork done gratis on the fire truck; that application of the superintendent tor increase in salary to £1 per week be glinted; that the application of the fire brigade for increase in subsidy to £4O per annum be granted and to- include subs to Fire Brigade Association in New Zealand; that the application of the fire brigade for increase in boot allowance form 20s per man per annum to 30s per man per annum be granted, subject a em " ers attending regularly; tfiat the board purchase gear belonging to the brigade at prices enumerated on schedule submitted by the superintendent to the value of £3B; that the board authorise the purchase of rour beds and bedding, as recommended in the superintendent’s report, at a of £2O; that the board pay the Lit ham Borough Council the sum of £8 for one D. and H. hydrant and one /4-root extension ladder, which were not included in the original list of plant; that consideration of following matter contained in report of the superintendent be deferred, viz., additions to fire station, installation of electric light, installation of additional telephones. Tne estimates were then considered and finally passed, providing for an expenditure of approximately £7OO, including the purchase of the motor truck.
The. fire insurance representatives were allowed 15s per day travelling expenses in connection "with board meetings.
Mr Douglas Clement was appointed the board’s solicitor, and was instructed to immediately effect the transfer of properties from the Eltham Borough Council to the Fire Boai'd. --The purchase of the truck was left in the hands of the chairman and secretary.
