(BY 1 TELEGRAPH —PRERS ASSOCIATION )

WELLINGTON, Aug. 28

Following on the constitution of the Manawatu Gorge Road Board of Control by Act of Parliament, much needed improvements are now being effected to the Gorge Rbad. To-day members of the board waited on the Premier 'and the Minister for Public Works to ask what subsidy would" be paid on the construction cost of £37,000 being incurred by the board, and that when completed the road be taken over by the Government and declared a Government road. It was also suggested that a toll-gate l/e erected.

Mr. Massey stated that he did not think the Government would agree to a toll-gate. The other requests would have to go to Cabinet.
