TWO FIRES.

HOUSE OUT OF BOROUGH DESTROYED.

At about 3-45 o'clock yesterday afternoon a fire broke out at the resi- v dence of Mr E. M. Galvin, of Waihi road. The brigade was speedily on thg' scene, and found the washhouse on fire. The fire was soon under control, but not before considerable damage was done to the washhouse, but the house itself was practically untouched. The damage to the building was due mainly to smoke. The insurance on the building was £750 in the State Fire Office; the contents were uninsured.

A fire broke out at about 2.30 this morning at a house in Rata street, owned by Mr E. Godfrey and occupied by Mr George Richards. The brigade went out to the fire, but were unable to save the building and contents from total destruction. The house was insured for £IOOO in the Farmers’ Mutual, and the furniture for £2OO in the. Norwich Union.
