ALLEGED FORGERY

WELLINGTON, Aug; 25. At the Magistrate’s Court Victor Bond was charged with the alleged forgery of cheques for £7B, the property of Scott and Martindale, wellknown commission agents. It was alleged accused typed out cheques, signed the name of the firm, and cashed them at city hotels. The prosecution is relying principally on the evidence of handwriting experts.' The case has not finished.
AUCKLAND’S WATER SUPPLY. AUCKLAND, Aug. 25. ; A meeting of representatives of twenty-two local bodies, covering a large area around the city, decided in favouri of the foramtion of a provincial water hoard to supply the districts in the suburban and outer suburban areas; including North Shore, and that immediate steps be taken to obtain a comprehensive report on a scheme for obtaining water from Lake Taupo or the Waikato river at Arapuni. The scheme in view is .estimated to cost about £2,000,000. ' The city council was not represented at the conference. ADVANCE LEVIN. I LEVIN, Aug. 25. The Prime Minister visited Levin today and laid fhe foundation stone of a block of municipal offices, theatre and. shops, to be erected in Main Street,- at a cost- of £27,000.
