DRUNKEN DRIVERS.
PENALTIES , IMPOSED. (UY TELEGRAPH FRERB ASSOCIATION ) DUNEDIN, Aug. 25. Clarence Bernard. Joseph Ward was admitted to probation for thre<S years on a charge of being drunk while in charge l of a motor car and knockingdown a man. He had been previously convicted of a similar charge and prohibited from driving. Medical evidence proved that injuries received in the war were responsible for a little drink making him drunk. The magistrate (Mr Bundle) said he would have sent him to gaol as a warning to the public und motorists that it was a serious offence, but the medical evidence would be taken into consideration. WHANGAREI, Aug. 25. Charles Hawken Einlayson, a young farmer, was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment on charges of drunkenness while in charge of a motor car and driving in a manner dangerous to the public.
