CAPTAIN FINED.
BERTHED' TOO' SOON. (BY r TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 22. On a charge of having brought his vessel to the wharf at Auckland before she had been granted pratique, J. Kankine, master of the steamer Koromiko, was, in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, fined £lO and costs. Captain Kankine said he had received pratique um ) y harf at Wellington and lne Bluff and he considered the Auckland Harbour Board was partly to blame for flying the berthing before pratique had been granted, it was stated that it was growing dark and the sea was choppy when the vessel was taken to the wharf. The magistrate said there could be no question as to defendant’s bona fides but lie should have waited for the proper signal before berthing.
