SAMOAN MANDATE.
SIR J. ALLEN BEFORE THE COMMISSION. During the week-end Sir James Allen went to Geneva to appear before the 3?ennanent Mandates Commission, and answer questions regarding the report ironi New Zealand on the Samoan Mandate. The members ol the Commission were keenly interested in the New Zealand administration of the territory, and the High Commissioner answered questions and gave explanations on various points for more than two hours. 1 here was no criticism on the report, and the Commission complimented New Zealand on the work it had done lor the health ol the Natives and other residents of the group. It was evident that the members of the Commission were not Hear as to 'the relation ot the Mandatory Government to the Grown Lands of the Mandated Territory. Sir James Allen was ;d>le to explain to them that the Crown Lands forfeited by the German Government came under the reparation arrangements, and were now vested in the British Sovereign, who would deal with them as hi.s responsihile Ministers -in this case, the Government of New Zealand—thought fit.
