HAWERA HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hawera Hospital Board was heJd yesterday, when there were present: Messrs F. Gillanders (chair), J. J. Meldon, A Wills, A Campbell, J; S. McKay, E.’A. Washer, and E. J. Gifford. The medical superintendent, Dr. W. M. Thomson, reported that on June 30 there were 53 patients remaining in hospital. During July 67 were admitted, 68 were discharged, and 3 died, leaving 49 in hospital on July 31. The daily average of occupied beds during July was 55.6, and the total number of patient days was 1726. The daily average of occupied beds, for the last four months of this year was 57.5, while the daily average for the same period of last year was 47.2. During the month 33 operations were performed. The total number of hospital X-ray cases treated during July was 19, and the total number of private Xray cases was 9. The number of massage treatments given during the month was 243. The number of outpatients treated during the month was 20.
Matron R. Lockhead renorted that Nu rse L. Granf haa completed her second year’s training. Nurses’ lectures had been given as follow: — Doctor’s, seniors 2, juniors 2; matron’s, seniors 2, juniors 2; cookery, seniors 3; bandaging, seniors 2, juniors 2. Sister Sutherland was absent on sick leave, and a new masseuse, Sister Wylie, had been appointed. The matron of the Old People’s Home reported on the health of the inmates. She had also reported that donations had been received from the Methodist Young Women’s Bible Class, the Hawera Technical School, and Messrs Sutton and Travis. During Show Week the Eltham S.A. Boys’ Band had rendered a musical programme at the Home, which was much appreciated. Mrs Hooker-had thoughtfully sent two motor-cars to the Home, and had arranged for all the men to visit the show free. Mrs Hooker had alos entertained them at afternoon tea.
The fa nil manager reported that 450 gallons of milk had been supplied to the hospital and Old People’s Home, together with cabbages, cauliflowers, and carrots'. Eive tons of mangolds had been sold at 35s per ton, 6.) tons of carrots at £2 per ton, and I V tons of hay at Co per ton. The reports were adopted, and it was decided to thank Mrs L. O. Hooker and Mrs C. Ferguson for taking the inmates of the Old Men’s Home through the Winter Show. The Board receiyed a satisfactory renly from the Department concerning Dr. Boyd’s hospital at Kaponga.
