England, in their first innings, made 332 for six wickets, when rain compelled the abandonment of play for ithe day. Scores were:— Sutcliffe, c Ward, b Nourse 5 Hobbs, c Ward, b Pegler 30 Hearne, c Susskind, b Pegler ...... 35 Woolley, b Carter 51 Hendren, not out 92 Sandham, c Ward, b Nourse 46 Tate, b Carter 50 Giliigan, not out 4 Total for six wickets 332 Received Aug. 19. 10.45 a.m. The sky was overcast when the final test was resumed. The wicket was on the soft side, but not easy. Hearne and Hobbs did not attempt to force the game. Pegler was bowling splendidly. Hendren was missed at five and fifteen, after which he played dashingly. His partnership with Sandham added 148. Play stopped at 5 o’clock.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
