, ail J Mrs Newton Kipg, who have oeen on a visit to hngiand aim America, arrived at Auckland by the yesterday from Vancouver, they will probably return to New Plymouth by the Ra-rawa on Friday.
At the annual meeting of the Riversdaie Dairy Factory a vote of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Joseph Coleman and the late Allred Willeoeks, both of whom in years gone by had done valuable work tor the company. The motion was passed in siJence, members standing tor a few moments out of respect to their memory. Mr E. A. Washer, of Hawera, has been notified that he has been selected to act as judge of milking Shorthorns at the First Royal Show, to be held at Palmerston North in November. This is a distinct compliment to Mr Washer and to the district, and is an acknowledgment of 1 ' the good work done by him in the past at various shows.
Mr 1 . Foster, who is well-known tiuougiiout the Dominion as a t-lieatri-cai producer, and who is to produce Our Miss Gibbs’ J with the iJaweira Amateur Operatic Society, arrived in Hawera last, evening, and is looking forward to meeting the Hawera amar teurs this evening at the Oddfellows’ Hall.
Mr H. Clouston, of the staff of Messrs Ross and Glendinning, Wellington, has been appointed to the management of that firm’s New Plymouth branch, and has left to take over his new duties.
Mr R. P. Sims has been appointed assistant cnief mechanical engineer in the New Zealand Railways to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr G. A. Pearson. There were a large number of applicants from England and Australia. Mr Sims was trained in England, and for the last ten years .has practised in Canada and the United States.—Press Assn.
Mr Wm. H. Burgess was yesterday appointed I by the Taranaki Education Board to the position of headmaster at the Opunake School, .subject to the Nelson Board releasing him, and to the approval of the- Director of Education.
Mr D. S. Thomson, manager of the Gisborne branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been appointed to .the Wellington branch of the bank as acting-manager, in succession to M.r U- L. Hempton. He will be succeeded ut Gisborne by Mr A. J. at pi esent manager at Napier. Mr S. G. Smith, M.P., was yester-. day appointed chairman of the Taranaki Fducaf-iou Board. The retiring •hairma-n (Mr A. Lees) did not offer himself for .re-election, and in proposing Air Smith for the position, lie referred to the latter’s experience of ana interest in educational matters. The other members of -the Board unanimously supported Mr Smith’s nomination, and spoke in eulogistic terms of his fitness for the position. A Press Association .message from London states that Mr Malcolm MacDonald, son of the Prime Minister of Britain, lias been chosen as one of the representatives of the Oxford Union Debating Society who are going on a. tour, including Australia and New Zealand, in order to‘debate with the students of overseas universities.
