SNEAK THIEVES.

OPERATING IN WELLINGTON. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. A gang of sneak thieves have evidently been operating in the city. A visitor from Sydney, at one of the big residential hotels, was relieved of an etxensive wardrobe and money, the tourist being left with only what he stood up in. Fortunately the money taken was a small amount, as the visitor had not yet lifted his supply from the bank. In one suburb a resident went off for the week-end and left a toolhouse unlocked. When he returned all the contents were gone. The place is in view of neighbours all day and the thieves made a nocturnal visit. Other similar occurrences are reported, and the householders’ slogan' now’ is: ‘Lock doors.” Good watch dogs are also in demand.
