A man hunt in a coal mine at Saint Etienne followed a fatal quarrel between two Spaniards. The miners, hearing cries, rushed to the spot, found Jose Gomez dead from blows with a. shovel. His assailant, Jean Carlie, rushed through the workings shrieking like a madman, and kept his pursuers at bay with an automatic pistol until the magazine was exhausted, when he. was captured and bound hand ’and foot.
