OPUNAKE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) CONCERT. There was a large attendance of the public at the concert given in the Methodist Church on Friday evening by Mr H. Leslie Piper, assisted by local talent. The proceeds were devoted to the circuit fund. Mr Piper met with well merited appreciation, and was repeatedly recalled. Probably his best item was * ‘ Invietus, ” and in response to the recall he ivas equally pleasing in his singing of “The Blind Ploughman.” He was also heard to advantage in items of lighter vein, and was a favourite with the audience throughout. Other items were provided by Miss Ilughson, pianoforte solo; Miss McLean and Mr Hugh son, duet; Misses Coombridge, recitations; Mr Magnum Hughson, solo; Oaonui Orchestra (four instruments) gave two selections; Mr T. P. Ilughson, solo; Rev. E. B. Chambers, solo. Mrs T. P. Hughson accompanied the vocalists on the piano. At the conclusion Rev. E. B. Chambers returned thanks to those who had in any way assisted to the success of the concert.
