HAWERA LADIES’ CLUB. The weather once more interfered with the week’s plans and made it impossible to play off anv of the championship matches on Thursday. The first and only decision so far is a win for Miss L. Quin, who defeated Mrs. Thomson after <a very close contest by one putt on the 21st green. The second round of the rose bowl is now finished and is quite remarkable for the number of wins taken bydefault, this being due almost entirely to the vagaries of the weather. The results are as follows: Mrs. Walkley (17) beat Mrs. Fovster (26), 1 up'; .Miss H. Burgess (25) beat Mrs. Trotter (24). 2 up : Miss M. Quin won from Mrs. Little , Mrs. Thomson from Mrs. French, Mrs. Wake from Miss Wilson, ana Mrs. Gln.sson from Airs. Page bv default: Mrs. Bright (20) beat Airs. Marshall (21). 7 and 6; and after two ties Afiss .Toll (26) beat Miss Burgess (ID, 6 and 5. •
Tluring tlie week Miss M. Quin bent Miss Wilson in a round to decide their tie lor the May month] v medal. Mrs. Bay ley earned her first L.G.U. handicap 119 —83 —3fi. Those playing rose howl matches over the altered course will use the handicap stroke allotted to “Home” at the new hole between the new “Westward Ho” and the “Return.” Next Thursday the seniors play a flag competition, choosing partners while the juniors have another try at their junior eclectic. MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIPS. Tn view of the fact that oualifying rounds, that is by stroke play, have to be played, and because it is apparent that there is much uncertainty in reference to the rules for stroke play, competitors are urged to read and study the rules governing such competitions. Special attention should be given to rule 4. clause 2, which prohibits players, before commencing, playing up to any of the putting greens; rule 7, clause 2, concerning playing in front of the tee; rule 8, clauses 1 and 2. dealing with playing with wrong ball; rule 13, clause 1. concerning striking the flag-stick or the person standing at the hole; and rule 10, clause 1, which says that a competitor mav have any other player’s ball played or lifted at the option of the owner if he fluids it interfered with his play. The rules are all printed incxteuso on the large card at the golf-house, and it is incumbent on all players to pay special attention to their observance.
