SPLICED NERVES.
ADVANCE OF SURGERY. BY CABLE—PREB3 ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Aug. 14, 9.25 a.m. OTTAWA, Aug. 13. A message from Toronto says that Dr. Ivy Mackenzie, neurologist at Glasgow University, stated at a meeting of the British Association that surgery had reached a stage where several nerves could be spliced. Surgeons were able to- join the nerves in a case of damage, and the cords might be cut, and spliced again in cases of short fingers or limbs. In such operations it was impossible to join the cut ends so that exactly corresponding nerve fibre would grow together again, but it was found that this precision was unnecessary for the success of the repair.—Reuter.
