PATEA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The 1 ’ monthly meeting of the Patea County Council was held yesterday, Avhen there Avere present: Cr«. Jas. Gibbs (c-hair), C. J. Belton. T. R. Taylor, R. Scoavii, D. Sntherl#id. F. McDonald, W. Back and TV. A. Watkins. Mr. Bloor, Waverley, Avrote pointing out the urgent need for repairs to the .station road. —Left to engineer. ' Mr. W. Hicks Avrote asking that the Pnao Road be opened so as to enable him to get his cows out. —Left to engineer. Messrs. Bremer later Avaited on the council and asked that fhev he excluded from rating under a special loan of £2900, the petition for Avhich had been irregular, and they be included in a small loan of £7OO, which AA-ould metal a smaller length of road. SeA'errd of those Avho had signed the petition for the £2900 iioav wished to see that loan drop and the smaller loan taken up. The chairman said he did not see lioav the larger loan could be blocked iioav that it had gone so far. Hoavever, it Avas for the ratepayers concerned to make any legal move to upset the first petition. In acting on the first petition, the council had simply done so in good faith. The council therefore confirmed the special order made at- the last council meeting regarding the Otauto loan of £2900. ,
Mr. J. R,. Corrigan, M.P.. Avrote asking for a list of the most important AA-qrks the council desired placing upon the Public Works Estimates. It Avas left to a committee consisting of Cr.s. Belton. McDonald and Sutherland to supply the necessary information. The Patea Borough Council Avrote thanking the chairman for personal assistance in connection with tlie District IligliAvay Council. —Received. ENGINEER’S REPORT. 'Hie engineer’s report was as follows :—. I have to report on the works in the epuntv for the period ending to-day as folloAvs: Main Road and General. —The heavy rains have caused underslips in the Whenuakura A T alley and on the ManaAvapou hill. The Avhole road in general has suffered from the Aveather, and more particularly .the portions of the road only metalled, which are uoav again in bad order. The survey and plan work on the Patea hill section is well ahead. I recommend that the roller and party commence work preparing the foundation course Avhon and whore praotieahle. in readiness for the season’s work. Metal has been coming to hand at Bull Road, but this snpplv has now stooped and all the metal is now to come to Patea station. I he bitumen (or the season’s work has been put on order. Shed rock from !o Went lias recommenced, and in the meantime I am taking same, at Ball Road pending your instructions. Otoia West.—The blinding on Hamilton’s and Muggeridge’s road is complete. As instructed last meeting, the two extra men have been dispensed with. The culvert at Geary’': (•orner is complete and is satisfactory. progress; fins been made on the Alton Gorge oAving to weathei conditions. O'tnia East. —Fair progress has been made on the Otauto hill. This work '''ill he finished with about a week of fine weather. \\ averley.—Beyond genm-al surfaceuoik there is nothing to report in tin’s riding. Mnmnahaki.—Work on McGregor’s road has been completed—metallineand sanding—as far as weather circumstances will permit. Some finding has been done on the Makakalio Road and protection works on Stony Creek on t lie- Makakaho Road Adopted.
