MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 12. In the Supreme Court to-day the hearing was continued of the charge of manslaughter against Frank McDevitt, in connection with the death of the City Council’s traffic inspector, William Cross, pn the Hutt Road on the evening of April 26, when cars were returning from Trentham races. Some witnesses said that Cross was standing in the most dangerous position on the road, and he was moving to and fro. Just before he was struck he had stopped one car and held up his hands to another.

One witness said the car was going! at more than 30 miles an hour, and another car was travelling at not more than 20 miles. One of the occupants of the car said he had complained to McDevitt for travelling so' fast.
