SPORTING.

(By Telegraph.—Special to Star.) Christchurch, Au g . 13. At the time, of telegraphing the weather looks promising for to-mor-row’s racing. It transpires that Lochella broke down badly during the running of the Grand National Steeples, hence his poor jumping. Santiago incurred twelve pounds penalty for the National Hurdles for his win of yesterday. Although he won easily, Santiago’s chance to-morrow is not good. Nukumai is well and won the Jumpers’ 1* lat in good style. The distance and the big weight will make his task a hard one for the National Hurdles. Lochson and Omahu both ran good races yesterday, but Boomerdav failed badly. Penury Rose finished best of all the runners and promises to do well in the National. Vagabond failed to show up in the Jumpers’ Flat, but his connections are still sanguine about his National prospects. Of the runners in the Woolston Hack Handicap, Ivuhio and Rubv Rino should do well. King Sol finished well yesterday, and Tussore ran a. fine i-aee in the Winter Cup, so both may be prominent in the Sumner Hack Handicap. Los Ambus showed speed in the Vinter Cup, and Yoma was unlucky, and each may do better in the August Handicap. On Sunart’s showing yesterday it should have a good following in the Islington to-morrow.
