BUTTER-FAT PRODUCTION.

❖ SLIGHT DECREASE FOR THE YEAR, The Dairy Division of the Department ol' Agriculture reports that the salted butter graded for July, 1924, was 578 tons, and the unsalted 20 tons, a total of 598 tons, compared with 505 tons salted and 15 tons unsalted, a total of 520 tons, for July of last year, an increase of 15 per cent. For the twelve months ended July, 1924, the respective quantities were 58,327 tons anti 3484 tons, a total of 61,811 tons, compared with 63,792 tons and 4058 tons, a total of 67,850 tons, a decrease of 8.9 per cent. The cheese graded for July. 1924, comprised: White 50 tons, coloured 87 tons, a total of 137 tons, compared with 84 tons white and 210 tons coloured, a total of 294 tons, a decrease of 53.4 per cent. The quantities for the twelve months ending July, 1924, were white 45,374 tons, coloured 23.573 tons, a total of 73,947 tons, compared with 38,374 toils white 22,846 tons coloured, a total of 61,220 tons, an increase of 20.7 per cent. Converting these figures into hutterfnt equivalent, there is a decrease of 0.17 per cent, in butter-fat production for the twelve months, as compared with the corresponding period of 192223.

Stocks held in the various grading ports at 31st July, 1924, were: Rutter, 1772 tons; cheese, 1799 tons.
