August 4 was the first anniversary of the opening for traffic to the Qtira tunnel. The net tonnage of goods through the tunnel from the coast during the year was about 172,000 tons. The passenger traffic has been quite satisfactory (states an exchange), but it lias not shown a sufficiently big increase to justify, in the Department’s estimation, an increase in the present stirv- ;es. This class of traffic has varied considerably, according to seasons and events at the time. On some days there have been well over 350 passengers, while one day there were only 64. During the summer season the average was about 200 by each train, and the average at the present time is only about 100.
