Reeve, A. T. Sulzberger, and the head teacher, M, r A. H. Grant. ihe chairman reported that the position of-second assistant had bee>» dedined by Mr Clmstopherson, and that -vi i; L De s Forges had since been apponited relieving teacher till the end of the year.
i’lie head teacher stated that the roll number was 1.00. and the average attendance 90, several cases of measles having .reduced the latter. The annual examination was due to take place next week.
The committee decided to make alterations to the entrance gates for the easier access of children’s bicycles, and to eiect a new fence on the eastern v ßl '*' school reserve. Thd chairman explained various matters which occurred af the South Taranaki school Committees’ Association
meeting, cmef among which was the extra girant made to town schools by way of capitation. Exception was taken to this preferential treatment. Various accounts were passed for payment, and" the meeting adjourned. FOOTBALL. The local school boys have proved themselves a formidable team of footballers. They have this year an unbeaten record, having beaten Kaponga, Ngaere, Matapu, Rawhitiroa and Eltham Convent, all by wide margins. Two boys of especial promise, G. McGuinness and B. Nieliola9 have been chosen to play in the schoolboys’ rep match, North v. South, and may be depended upon to acquit themselves well. Years ago sport was very much alive in Mangatoki, but since the war it has died a natural death, so it is doublv pleasing to note a revival, even if amongst the- boys. Credit must be given to Mr Des Forges for the amount of time he has given to coaching them, also thanks to Messrs A. Sulzberger, A. Burke, Spence and J. P. Marx for providing their ears when necessary. PERSONAL. Mrs Nicholas has just returned from visiting her mother in Wellington. Miss Hazel Clarke recently returned from Hamilton. Miss P. Brown returned to Auckland last Tuesday after a stay of two months in this district as the guest of Mr and Mrs Anderson, Mahoe, and Mr and Mrs Astburv; Mangatoki. Mr Horace Mills has taken a trip to Australia. Miss Jessie Lanibie has been visiting her sister, Mrs Carswell, in Wellington. .Mr and Mrs Roy Perry were the recipients of a welcome home in the time-honoured fashion.
